I've made system images, created their emergency boot disk (Win PE type) and have restored an image to a spare HD without any errors.

The interface is different from Ghost, but if you read the manual a few times it seems like the new 4.0.2 version works pretty good. There is a paid version that gives you a few more options which you may or may not need. That being said, I've found a free one built for Win10 that I downloaded and have been using for a few weeks now. I've run all my backup schedules and I have done a C image restore to a spare HD successfully. I've been running it fine although I've had to redo the procedure with each Win10 major update.

I also have never run a virtual system that I could run XP or 7 on and even if I did, I have no idea of how to configure one.)

How have you solved this problem, or have you just given up on your older backups? (Since Microsoft forced the Windows 10 upgrade on me, I simply don't have a spare computer to install Windows XP or 7. Why else would I have used Ghost for as long as I did. There may be other acceptable solutions.īut unless I'm mistaken, Symantec has badly screwed me over. Symantec could create a conversion program that changes the old file format to something that its newer backup programs can use. Symantec could create a program that performed the read/restore functions of Ghost. Symantec could put a product out that still performs all the Ghost functions using the original file format. In other words, the file format has changed. I've talked with tech support and after much discussion (seriously, it took a lot of time to wring it out of them) found out that anything that Symantec/Norton has for Windows 10 won't read my older backups. Unfortunately, since Ghost is no longer supported and even worse is incompatible with Windows 10, I feel totally abandoned. I've also created backups of various systems (running on various older Windows versions) that I occasionally still reference.
